Synopsis

My Winter Tears it's a poetic expression that evokes sadness, longings and malancholy as if the speaker's tears are falling like rain. The film is based on a true story about a boy (Jabulani) that lost his brother (Sipho) to a tragic sacred river attack when they were young boys at their home break in Newcastle UMZINYATHI river. Lindani M. Msibi is a passionate South African artist from rural Newcastle who began his artistic journey through theatre in 2017. He later pursued a Drama and Production Studies diploma at the Durban University of Technology, where he excelled academically and artistically. Lindani transitioned into filmmaking during his studies, producing several award-winning films such as ISIBAZI, Idelakufa, and My Winter Tears, which gained recognition both locally and internationally—including in Taiwan and China.

He has received numerous accolades, including best student film, best directing, and best creative idea awards at prestigious film festivals like the Power International Film Festival and the Durban 48-Hour Film Festival. In 2024, he placed third in the Cape Town 48-Hour Film Race and was nominated for a Simon Sabela Award. Now a qualified actor and graduate, Lindani is pursuing his advanced degree in 2025 and is eager to further impact the creative industry by inspiring fellow filmmakers and expanding his international presence.
